Home ownership remains an American dream, survey says

What real estate frightening? Home possession leftovers a big part of the American dream, according to a new review.

Trulia.com statement 72 percent of respondents explained home ownership as part of their ``personal American dream.'' That's downward from 77 percent at the begin of the year.

The review also polled renters on their real estate goals. Almost 75 percent said they wanted to buy a home, while 27 percent said they had no attention in buying. Of those interested in switching from renter to home owner, the main fence cited was not having enough money for a down payment.

``Usually, people are very optimistic about home ownership,'' said Pete Flint, CEO and creator of the real estate search site. ``What we've seen enter the market is a dose of realism.'
